Salary to Hourly Rate Calculator

This converts a salary you already receive into an hourly rate using the weeks and hours you say are paid. It is a gross figure. It does not know your tax, pension, or unpaid leave.

Calculator

How the number is produced

Annual salary ÷ (paid weeks × hours per week) = hourly rate. A monthly salary is multiplied by 12 first. A weekly salary is multiplied by the paid weeks first. Daily rate = hourly × (hours per week ÷ days per week).

Worked example

€52,000 a year, 40 hours a week, 5 days, 52 paid weeks. Paid hours are 2,080. 52,000 ÷ 2,080 = €25.00 an hour, and €200.00 a day.

When this is useful

Comparing a salaried offer with contract day rates, or checking what an hour of a salary is worth before you agree to extra unpaid work.

Limits

Gross only. It does not deduct income tax, social contributions, or benefits. It does not convert currencies. Unpaid leave only counts if you lower the paid weeks yourself.

More on the assumptions is on how the calculators work.

Questions

Does this include tax?

No. The result is the salary divided by the hours you entered. Take-home pay is lower.

Why not always divide by 2,080?

2,080 is 40 × 52. If you are paid for 46 weeks, or you work 37.5 hours, that divisor is wrong for you.
