Billable Utilisation Calculator

Utilisation is how much of the time you worked was time you can invoice. The rest is sales, admin, rework you absorbed, or waiting. If you add a rate, the page also shows the revenue those billable hours represent, and what the unbilled hours would have been at the same rate.

Calculator

How the number is produced

Utilisation = billable hours ÷ total worked hours. Non-billable = total − billable. Revenue = billable × rate, only if you typed a rate.

Worked example

40 hours worked, 30 billed, €50 an hour. Utilisation is 75%. Ten hours were not billed. Billed revenue is €1,500. The unbilled ten hours would have been €500 at the same rate.

When this is useful

A week felt full and the invoice did not, and you want the gap as a number.

Limits

It does not decide which hours should have been billable. Revenue is not profit.

More on the assumptions is on how the calculators work.

Questions

What is a normal utilisation?

This page does not pick one. Many solo practices cannot bill every hour they work. Use your own records.
